History

Introduction

At KPHS, the History curriculum empowers students with knowledge of the past so they can better understand the world today. Students study a wide range of cultures, countries and time periods, from medieval to modern history. They explore the causes and consequences of key events, as well as change and continuity over time.

Through the study of historical sources and different interpretations, students learn to question evidence, think critically and form balanced judgements. Our curriculum reflects the diversity of our school community and broadens students’ cultural understanding. By the time they leave KPHS, students are knowledgeable, reflective and socially responsible young people, prepared to contribute positively to society.

How History Supports Our School Values

We Co-operate
Students work together to analyse sources, debate interpretations and share ideas. History also connects with other subjects through workshops, visits and cross-curricular learning, helping students see the bigger picture.

We Pioneer
Students are encouraged to question the past, challenge assumptions and think independently. By examining different viewpoints and interpretations, they develop critical thinking skills and intellectual curiosity.

We Belong
Our curriculum reflects diverse cultures and experiences, helping students see themselves within history. By understanding different societies and communities, students develop empathy, cultural awareness and a strong sense of belonging in the modern world.
