Supporting children with reading

How can I help my child with reading? 

• Set aside time to read together regularly

• Listen closely and give them your full attention

• Take turns reading sentences or pages

• Visit your local library to explore new books

• Chat with schoolstaff—teachers, tutors, or the SENDCo—for guidance

• Involve older siblings or friends in reading discussions

• Talk about what you're both reading

• Turn off the TV and put away phones to stay focused

• Share your favourite book or story from childhood
