GCSE Child Development

Introduction

Our Child Development curriculum helps students understand how children grow and develop from birth to five years. Students explore key areas of development, including physical, intellectual, communication and language, social, and emotional development. They also learn how factors such as family environment, health and lifestyle can influence a child’s progress.

Through discussion, case studies and real-life scenarios, students develop empathy, critical thinking and a deeper understanding of how to support children’s development. Our curriculum supports all learners to apply knowledge in meaningful ways, building confidence and independence. By the time they leave KPHS, students are informed, thoughtful individuals who understand how to support the wellbeing and development of others.

How Child Development Supports Our School Values

We Co-operate
Students work collaboratively through discussion and shared tasks, learning to listen, respect different viewpoints and support one another. They develop empathy and an understanding that every child develops differently.

We Pioneer
Students are encouraged to ask questions, apply theory to real-life situations and think critically about how to support development. They become confident problem-solvers who can make informed decisions and explain their ideas clearly.

We Belong
The curriculum promotes inclusion and respect for all individuals. Students learn the importance of supporting every child’s needs, helping them to develop a strong sense of responsibility, understanding and belonging within society.
