Super Food Week

News - 25 January 2024

The SPO and Student Leaders worked alongside a member of staff at Kingsway Park to participate in a ‘Super Food Week’ between 3rd – 10th December. The aim of this week was to collect as many food donations as possible within school and donate to a local foodbank.

We identified and worked in partnership with Rochdale AFC Community Trust. They have a one stop bus (Dale Food Pantry) at their stadium which is open daily, used as a foodbank and safe space for those in need.

The ‘Super Food Week’ idea arose from an initiative called ‘Fans Supporting Foodbanks’. Their slogan ‘Hunger doesn’t wear club colours’ is a powerful slogan and something the SPO and Rochdale AFC Community Trust felt was a great opportunity to work together to help the community of Rochdale.

The student leaders planned and led on delivering assemblies to every year group in Kingsway Park.

In total the students and staff at Kingsway Park collected 880 items of food for the Food Pantry.

“The idea of Super Food Week is important as it provides a wide range of resources to families who have been affected during our ongoing crisis.

“Resources such as food are very important as winter hits in the UK. This is an amazing opportunity for us as student leaders to be involved in a community project with Rochdale AFC.”
