Students produce Bilingual Drama with Oldham Coliseum Theatre
A group of students from the Alpha department at Kingsway Park High School, have been working with Ben Cain, from Oldham Coliseum Theatre. From playing drama games to creating pieces of drama, students have been building up their confidence, communication and teamwork.
They worked towards a performance piece, devised by the students themselves. As the students speak English as a second language, it was decided to make much of the performance bilingual. Urdu, Italian, Spanish: several languages were spoken, as well as English, including translating what was said.
Through the sessions, students reflected on their past, as well as tell a story and reveal their ambitions for their future.
The performance took place in the school grounds, with a selected audience. This included Mr Rathore, the students Personal Tutor, who commented ‘’It was a very inspirational and proud moment for me as their personal tutor’’.
The students all enjoyed the experience and performed well. Ms.M Mead, Head of the Alpha Department, thought they did incredibly well and said it was very much a worthwhile project.
After the performance, students learnt about Oldham Coliseum Theatre, including all the different departments such as sound and costume department.
It is hoped that the partnership will continue through this academic year, including an extra- curricular club for the Alpha students.
Well done to the students and a huge thank you to Ben Cain and Oldham Coliseum Theatre.
