10th March 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,
You may be aware from media coverage that teacher members in the National Education Union (NEU) have declared strike action, which will take place on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March 2023. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the union and the government over school funding and teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.
I’m sorry to inform you that Kingsway Park High School will be closed to the majority of students on Wednesday 15th of March and Thursday 16th March. We are asking you not to send your child into school on these days. Students are to return at normal time on Friday 17th March 2023.
We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students and feel that we would be unable to provide safe supervision with the staff we have available.
We will be inviting a number of students into school across the two days, these students will receive a separate letter to bring home which will provide specific details of their attendance in school over the two days. All students in school are expected to be in full school uniform.
Students who are entitled to a free school meal will be issued with a voucher to cover the two days. The vouchers will be emailed prior to Wednesday 15th March.
I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice, and that they will experience disruption to their education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.
We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
If you have any questions, please contact Karen Smith on email: info@kingswaypark.org
Kind Regards
Simon Ward
Headteacher
