Dear Parents/Carers of Year 11,
You may be aware from media coverage that teacher members in the National Education Union (NEU) have declared strike action, which will take place on Tuesday 28th February 2023. The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the union and the government over teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.
I’m sorry to inform you that Kingsway Park High School will be closed on Tuesday 28th February 2023 to all students. We are asking you not to send your child into school on this day. Students are to return at normal time on Wednesday 1st March 2023
We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students and feel that we would be unable to provide safe supervision with the staff we have available.
We are asking that Year 11 students dedicate the day to their revision for this summer’s examinations. A small cohort of Year 11 will be invited into school for part of the day. These students will receive a separate letter to bring home.
Students who are entitled to a free school meal will be able to collect a grab bag on Monday 27th February after school in the restaurant.
I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice, and that they will experience disruption to their education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.
We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
If you have any questions, please contact Karen Smith on email: info@kingswaypark.org
Kind regards,
Simon Ward
Headteacher
