20th April 2023
Dear Parents/Carers,
You may be aware from media coverage that teacher members in the National Education Union (NEU) have declared strike action, which will take place on Thursday 27th of April and Tuesday 2nd of May. These strikes are happening because of a national dispute between the union and the government over school funding and teachers’ pay, and not because of any issues at our school.
I’m sorry to inform you that Kingsway Park High School will be closed to students of Year 7 to 10 on Thursday 27th of April and Tuesday 2nd of May. We are asking you not to send your child into school on these days.
We have not taken this decision lightly. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students and feel that we would be unable to provide safe supervision with the staff we have available.
Due to discussions with unions, and with the agreement of teachers, we can provide two normal school days for all Year Eleven students as they approach their GCSE examinations. Please can you support us and ensure that every Year Eleven student is in school, and in full school uniform on both these dates.
Students who are entitled to a free school meal will be issued with a voucher to cover the two days. The vouchers will be emailed prior to Thursday 27th of April.
I’m sorry that you will have to make alternative arrangements for your child at short notice, and that they will experience disruption to their education. I understand that this situation may be frustrating and ask that all members of our school community continue to treat each other with respect.
We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
If you have any questions, please contact Karen Smith on email: info@kingswaypark.org
Kind regards,
Simon Ward
Headteacher
