Ian Murphy Visit

Ian Murphy – North West Artist Visit

Year 11 Fine Art students had the opportunity to take part in an all-day artist led workshop by Landscape artist Ian Murphy. Ian showed students his original artwork and talked to them about his inspiration, processes and which locations he chooses to go to, to create this artwork. Ian has travelled to many countries around the world and visually documents his travels in small sketchbooks. Once Ian returns to his workshop in Preston, Lancashire, he creates large scale oil paintings based on his smaller sketches. Students followed the same process, and at the beginning of the workshop created small basic sketches from architectural images, progressing onto he creation of a larger final piece using mixed-media materials, including tissue paper, acrylic paint, graphite power, ink and even sandpaper.

The students had an invaluable experience throughout the day and produced some fantastic work.
