In Year 10 students taking the Food option follow a course designed to increase their knowledge and understanding of nutrition, healthy eating, specific dietary groups, food functions and labelling. Each topic is linked to a practical design and make task which develops their skills e.g. designing and making a dessert high in vitamins, adapting a main meal to follow healthy eating goals and planning meals for vegetarians. Safety and hygiene procedures in both the classroom and industry are studied. In Year 11 a controlled task is completed where students select dishes and choose one to develop into the final product.
