Topic Intent:

We study Michel Thomas method at KPHS as it has proven to build linguistic confidence. It highlights links between French and English, building literacy in both languages. It also develops recall of key verbs and expressions and translation skills.

Topic Intent:

This module will teach students to talk and write about where they live and an introduction to food and recipes. These are topics that are accessible to all students, and they will feel comfortable talking about them. Student will learn basic vocabulary to talk/write about themselves. Teachers will build students’ confidence in working out the meaning of new words and pronunciation building on previous modules. Students have already seen the near future tense at the end of Y7. This module also links to theme 2 at GCSE.

Topic Intent: 

In this module students will learn about the capital of France and build their cultural capital. They will be introduced to the perfect past tense for the first time – a core tense when communicating in a foreign language.  They will also learn some basic questions and answers that they could use in planning a trip to a French tourist attraction. As with all modules, teachers will build students’ confidence in working out the meaning of new words and pronunciation building on previous modules. This topic links to Theme 2 at GCSE and role-plays.

Topic Intent:

The France project aims to inspire learners of the places that learning French can take them and to expand their global view. Students will continue to build their ability to give and justify their opinions in French on cultural aspects such as music and food.  They will build on their ability to work out the meaning of new words through understanding tourist information. This project also links to theme 2 at GCSE.

Home Learning:

Each week students will receive a crossword to complete in French of some core high frequency vocab. Students who do not complete their homework on time will receive a catch up from their teacher to complete the homework on the same day. Teachers will award classchart points to those who consistently complete homework on time. Each half term there is an extended cultural homework which is optional but for those students who wish to go the extra mile with their learning.

Employability, Professionalism and Enterprise  (EPE) Links

  • Organisation skills: creating ordered notes of core vocabulary to support revision.
  • Communication skills: listening for detail, being able to communicate in French in a range of topic areas.
  • Cultural Agility: develop our understanding and respect for other cultures and linguistic differences.
  • Attention to  detail: being precise in your writing, spelling of unfamiliar words and checking grammar (particularly tenses) to ensure our work is accurate.
