La Francophonie

Topic Intent:

School is a big part of your
life at the age of 11/12 years and therefore it is an important area to be able to talk about. Teachers will build students’ confidence in working out the meaning of
new words and pronunciation building on previous modules. Students have already seen basic opinion verbs in Enrich 1. The
basic grammar constructions of giving opinions with basic justifications will be introduced. This module also links to theme
3 at GCSE.

Topic Intent:

We study Michel Thomas method at KPHS as it has proven to build linguistic confidence. It highlights links between French and English, building literacy in both languages. It also develops recall of key verbs and expressions and translation skills.

Topic Intent:

At KPHS, our
motto is ‘Aspire, Learn, Achieve’, this module gives students to look at what they aspire to in the future and what they wish to achieve through their studies. It also looks at the importance of speaking multiple languages in the world of work. This module also links to theme 4 at GCSE

Topic Intent:

The Francophonie projects aims to inspire learners of the places that learning French can take them and to expand their global view.  Students will look at aspects of life in DOM/TOMs, Guadeloupe, Québec, Morocco, Madagascar as examples of different Francophonie countries. Students will continue to build their ability to give and justify their opinions in French on cultural aspects such as music and food.  They will build on their ability to work out the meaning of new words through understanding tourist information.

Home Learning:

Each week students will receive a crossword to complete in French of some core high frequency vocab. Students who do not complete their homework on time will receive a catch up from their teacher to complete the homework on the same day. Teachers will award classchart points to those who consistently complete homework on time. Each half term there is an extended cultural homework which is optional but for those students who wish to go the extra mile with their learning.

Employability, Professionalism and Enterprise  (EPE) Links

  • Organisation skills: creating ordered notes of core vocabulary to support revision.
  • Communication skills: listening for detail, being able to communicate in French in a range of topic areas.
  • Cultural Agility: develop our understanding and respect for other cultures and linguistic differences.
  • Problem Solving: Using strategies to understand words and structures that we haven’t come across before.
