Drama

Curriculum Intent

All students will have the opportunity to engage with Drama as a diverse art form. They will develop transferrable skills such as confidence, resilience and emotional intelligence whilst forging a secure understanding of both the practical and theoretical elements of Drama. The department will also promote cultural capital and additional opportunities via the extra-curricular programme.


Key Stage 3:

  • 2 x 60-minute lessons per fortnight.
  • Classes are mixed ability.
  • Work is complete in booklets which are kept in school.
  • Assessments are once per term and the assessment is marked out of 80.
  • Progress is monitored and tracked by the head of department and a senior leader.
  • Homework is set every week month and completion and submission is monitored on Class Charts.
  • Awards are given every half term in the form of certificates and a celebration breakfast for students who have shown an outstanding work ethic in Drama.

 


Key Stage 4:

  • 5 x 60-minute lessons per fortnight.
  • Classes are mixed ability.
  • The examination specification is BTEC (Performing Arts | Pearson qualifications) and the course is worth 1 GCSE and externally assessed by coursework (100%)
  • Work is complete in exercise books / folders which are kept at home and brought to lesson
  • Internal assessments are once per half term and in association with the coursework being completed at that time in the year. They are marked in line with the BTEC assessment criteria
  • Progress is monitored and tracked by the head of department and a senior leader
  • Homework is set every week and completion and submission is monitored on Class Charts
  • Awards are given every half term in the form of certificates and a celebration breakfast for students who have shown an outstanding work ethic in Drama.

 


Extended Curriculum

Clubs

  • Tuesday: School production (Hairspray) rehearsals in room 138 and 143 with Miss Crook and Mrs Tustin from 2.55-4.00pm
  • Wednesday: ALPHA Drama Club in room 138 with the Education Officer from Oldham Coliseum Theatre from 2.55pm -4.00pm

All clubs require completion of consent forms.

 

Extra Support

  • Wednesday: Year 11 GCSE Plus in room 138 with Miss Crook from 2.55-4.00pm

Experiences

  • Annual theatre trip for KS3 students to one of the following theatres: Oldham Coliseum; Royal Exchange Theatre; Home MCR; The Opera House; The Lowry Theatre.
  • Termly theatre trips for KS4 Drama students.
  • Termly external speakers/master classes for KS4 Drama students.
