Students Produce Bilingual Drama – Oct 21

Students produce Bilingual Drama with Oldham Coliseum Theatre

A group of students from the Alpha department at Kingsway Park High School, have been working with Ben Cain, from Oldham Coliseum Theatre. From playing drama games to creating pieces of drama, students have been building up their confidence, communication and teamwork.

They worked towards a performance piece, devised by the students themselves. As the students speak English as a second language, it was decided to make much of the performance bilingual. Urdu, Italian, Spanish: several languages were spoken, as well as English, including translating what was said.

Through the sessions, students reflected on their past, as well as tell a story and reveal their ambitions for their future.

The performance took place in the school grounds, with a selected audience. This included Mr Rathore, the students Personal Tutor, who commented ‘’It was a very inspirational and proud moment for me as their personal tutor’’.

The students all enjoyed the experience and performed well. Ms.M Mead, Head of the Alpha Department, thought they did incredibly well and said it was very much a worthwhile project.

After the performance, students learnt about Oldham Coliseum Theatre, including all the different departments such as sound and costume department.

It is hoped that the partnership will continue through this academic year, including an extra- curricular club for the Alpha students.

Well done to the students and a huge thank you to Ben Cain and Oldham Coliseum Theatre.

SIMS Parent App

Dear Parent/Carer

We have launched a new convenient way to share information with you, to help you stay up to date with your child’s school life as well as support your child’s development and progress. It is important that we form a strong partnership between students, home and school – communication is the key to this.

SIMS Parent App is an online system which you can access either as an application from a smartphone or tablet, or online via a website – anytime, anywhere. SIMS Parent App and website (https://www.sims-parent.co.uk) will allow you to monitor your child’s progress in school more closely than ever before.

You will receive an email or letter where you will find your invitation code. You will need this code to set up your SIMS Online Services account. If you already have an email account stored in our system at school, you will have received an email from noreply@sims.co.uk . If have not not received an email it is either because we have no records stored, or it has been filtered to your junk mailbox. Please note, the invitation code is unique to you and should not be used by anyone else.

You can sign in with your existing email address using any of the following platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft/Office 365 (so that you don’t have to remember another set of usernames and passwords!). If you do not have an account with any of these providers, you can still create a Microsoft or Google account here using your existing email address.

SIMS Parent App will allow us to share lots of essential information with you, such as:

  • Attendance
  • Behaviour and achievement summary.
  • School reports.
  • Newsletters
  • Assessments
  • Events

You can even request the school to update personal information eg; address, telephone numbers etc.

Our aim is to stop using the text messaging service and make the SIMS Parent App our primary method of communication with parents/carers. It is extremely important that once you have installed the app you allow push notifications so that we can keep you up to date with important school messages.

To register, please visit https://registration.sims.co.uk/. Once you have registered, please install the app on your smartphone or visit https://www.sims-parent.co.uk to log in and view all the features available to you. You can find further information about logging in and using the app on our website.

If you encounter any problems with installation or access, please refer to the support documents below.
