Year 9

It is our expectation that students who follow the GCSE music programme will focus the
majority of their home learning on individual instrumental practice. This may be working on
pieces of music from individual peripatetic lessons or practicing and learning music that has
been set as part of a whole class activity.
This instrumental practice is ongoing and students are expected to practice for at least 10
minutes daily.
Additional home learning will be set to further embed theoretical concepts or to explore the
life and work of a composer being studied in class. Students will typically have a week to
complete this, depending on the task.
Sanctions
Students who fail to complete the homework by the following lesson will be given an
opportunity to hand the homework in the following morning. Failure to do so will result in a
departmental catch-up where the homework will be completed.
Rewards/Acknowledgement:
Students who complete homework to an exceptional standard will be rewarded via the school
rewards system.
