Dear Parent / Carer of our Year Ten Students,

Year Ten GCSE Study – home learning arrangements – from week beginning Monday 27th April 2020

Firstly, the staff at KPHS would like to thank you for your support in ensuring your son/daughter is continuing with their learning during this unusual time. As a school, we are extremely mindful that our Year Ten students need to be making every attempt to be continuing with their GCSE studies so that their outcomes at the end of Year 11 enable them to pursue college courses and future careers.

Our staff have been committed to being available to your son/daughter on-line /providing hard copy resources since the school has to operate its temporary closure. We have been delighted with some of the excellent work produced and feel sure that for many of this year group, this will benefit them in the months to come as they embark on their final year. However, we have noticed that some students have not been accessing their teachers or learning at any time since our temporary closure and this is a key concern. In these instances, we ask for your total support in this matter.

We have decided to adapt our timetable from Monday 27th April 2020. Here are the arrangements for their studies. Please read it carefully and ensure your son/daughter is clear about the new system.

Your son / daughter has two timetabled study slots each morning. Their study day will begin at 9.45am. Independent study and time to complete the work set has been built into their schedule. The VISION activity on Wednesdays is accessible via the school website. Some students will not be able to follow the timetable if they are sharing ICT resources in the home. These students should aim to complete the same work each day at other times. It is VERY important that during the first lesson in any of the subjects next week, that they contact their class teacher, who will then explain the arrangements for subsequent lessons. This can be done via Teams. Each subject will have a different arrangement and it is vital that the students understand this.

Each subject will ask your son/daughter to access either Microsoft Teams or other forms of e-learning. The Curriculum Leaders have spent time looking at the best opportunities for your child, so it is important that they follow their directions. During some of the timetabled slots, your child’s specialist teacher will be available to help and support him/her with questions, explanations etc. We are mindful that things are sometimes taking a little longer to learn and so the independent study slots will enable the completion of work.

Students might also choose to take advantage of the newly launched daily lessons from:
BBC Bitesize
Oak National Academy
Joe Wicks’ physical daily exercise provision via You Tube

If your son/daughter does not have access to a computer, we are providing revision guides in school. Please contact school to request these so that we can allocate these for your child, and we would then ask that you collect them from school at a specified time. Please contact Y10 Year Manager ASaville@nullkingswaypark.org so that this information can be shared with us.

Please contact school if any of the above is unclear or if you need further support with any of the arrangements. Many thanks again for your support in ensuring your child achieves the best they can.

Yours faithfully,

Deborah Ball
