Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to you today regarding the Sunflower Lanyard.
These were sent out without our knowledge by a local group. When we have investigated further, the letter that came with them states that these lanyards are for use in shops and restaurants which are uncontrolled environments and where people may be expected to wear a mask for long periods of time. They do not state that they are for school use, as in general, students are only asked to wear masks for very short periods in school at the moment. Bearing this in mind and after discussions with the Local Authority, we have decided that these lanyards will not be allowed within the school building.
As we are in an area of rapidly increasing cases and we are requesting learners only wear a mask for movement on the corridors between lessons, we feel that the safest action we can take is to ask parents to support our decision to ensure as many students as possible wear a mask. This reduces the risk of students circulating the virus on the corridor and keeps everyone safer in school, giving us the best chance of maintain our delivery to all our young people.
However, this does not mean we are not taking seriously the tensions for those for whom the wearing of a mask is unsuitable even for short periods for example, children with physical difficulties, severe respiratory conditions and some invisible disabilities such as autism. If you feel your child should be exempt, please email me at NGriffith@nullKingswayPark.org
If it becomes apparent that your child is mask exempt, they will be issued with a school pass which can be shown to staff to explain why they are not wearing a mask. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and thank you in advance for your support and understanding of our actions which are designed to keep everyone as safe as possible at all times.
