Dear Parent/Carer,

You would be so proud of the students after their first week back; they have come into school (mostly on time, for 8.30am!) lined up when asked and taken to the new timings of the day with ease. Thank you to all parents for your support in this.

I write to remind you that there has been a change to the guidance for Greater Manchester in light of what are rapidly rising case numbers in most boroughs, including Rochdale. It is believed that this is being driven by the Delta variant, currently dominant and believed to be more transmissible – and there is evidence that it is circulating amongst those who have not been vaccinated. Please can I ask you to take up your vaccination appointments when they are offered (I have had my first jab now and other than feeling a bit tired I can report no ill-effects!) – and from school’s point of view, please can I remind you of the following:

If your child displays any symptoms – including persistent cough, high temperature, shortness of breath, sickness or diarrhoea, please do not send them into school. I know this is not the advice we would give usually but at the moment it is the right thing to do as it reduces the risk of us having to close any bubbles.

We await the PM’s next announcement with interest of course.

Other than that, for now, I just want to thank you for making sure the students have returned to us in such a positive frame of mind, in good uniform and on time! It has genuinely been a pleasure to do my lunch duties so far this half term and to chat to them all as they go past!

Yours sincerely.
