4th November 2020
I am writing to let you know that after spending a couple of days here and talking to students and parents about our current provision, it is clear that we need to upscale our remote learning offer, as there are still huge risks of closure to bubbles of students – and a number of restrictions on us that mean we cannot easily deliver additional catch up classes in school as this means mixing bubbles.
Therefore, I need, with some urgency, to generate an increase in the numbers of staff who are trained to deliver learning online as without this level of continuity we will not be able to make sure all students (and especially Y11) will get the best possible experience throughout the year.
On Friday 6th November therefore, I am going to close the school at 1pm (though lunch will still be available to Y9 before they leave) so that ALL staff can take part in training in the use of Microsoft teams as the online learning platform. Following this session, all the students will take part in a lesson next week which will show them how to access their lessons and assignments online – and you will be sent your own guide to KPHS Online Learning next week so that you can support your child when they are at home.
I am very aware that you have had considerable disruption already and I am sorry that this decision means they will miss a P5 lesson this week, but I believe the need to make sure we are equipped to deliver continuously is so great, either because of the risk of closure to bubbles due to Covid-19 or because we need to be able to facilitate catch up learning, that we cannot wait – and this is the fastest way for us to achieve this.
Please ask if you have any questions – and thank you in advance for your support of us in getting ourselves ready for giving the best education possible to KPHS students this year.
