Within the academic year your child will complete an eight-week rotation in Food Science and Nutrition and eight weeks within Design Technology. Previously within these subjects’ students would be expected to partake in weekly practical sessions.
As you are aware the current situation and restrictions in the school setting are ever changing. The National Covid ‘keeping safe’ guidelines have had some impact on the way we will be able to structure and deliver our content safely.
Whilst we take every step to ensure your child receives the best possible curriculum content within a safe and secure environment as well as adhering to the government guidelines, the following changes have had to be made:
Practical activities will have to be minimised and completed without workshop tools for the foreseeable future.
Challenge tasks may be set for Home Learning to consolidate the lesson content
In situations where practical occurs disposable PPE will be provided.
Food Science and Nutrition:
Due to the classroom layout and the number of students bringing ingredients to and from school, unfortunately all practicals will be suspended until further notice.
However, teacher demonstrations will take place within the lessons and the content will be uploaded to the school Padlet. Students will be given more information about how to access this within their lesson.
To help consolidate and develop practical skills students will be required to complete several practical cooking tasks at home. The cooking tasks will be demonstrated to students before hand and the recipes are able to be adapted to your family’s taste.
Thank you for your cooperation at this time and if you seek further information or clarification please do not hesitate to contact reception and ask to speak to Miss Worth or Mrs George.
