As you will have seen, the government has announced that secondary schools will now extend the staggered start to term, and all learning will be online next week, even for Y11.
This decision is designed to allow us to explore the possibility of testing for staff and students more thoroughly, to make sure our plans for this term are robust and to reduce the volume of people mixing in the immediate aftermath of the holiday period.
For Kingsway students this means the following:
On January 4th, all students should stay at home, including Y11, and you/they will receive their new timetable via email. Staff will be in school checking online classes are correct ready for use again, and making contact with as many of you as we can.
From Tuesday January 5th, all students should log into Teams and follow their timetable online. We will be checking their online attendance and following up with you where we don’t see them joining lessons in case there are barriers we can help you with.
From January 11th we will begin to bring back Y11, and we will share with you the details of how this will work nearer the time and when we understand exactly what testing we can offer or direct you to.
All other year groups will then be contacted to arrange their return in the week of January 18th.
Children of key workers/vulnerable children: If you know that your child falls into the category of vulnerable or you are a key worker, please complete the form on our website to arrange provision from Tuesday 5th January, or give us a ring on Monday if you need some help.
Please can you complete the form on our website for testing consent. We would not test your child without your consent, and while we are still trying to understand the logistics of how testing will work, it will be helpful for us to try and gather the paperwork that will help in advance.
I want to finish by saying that we know now that we can offer continuous education via Microsoft Teams and that many students have engaged well with lessons in this way in the last few weeks. We know it is not the same as being in school as normal, but it can ensure quality teaching is in front of the children in the best way possible. Please help us to help your child to learn – but please don’t worry if things are not as smooth as we might all prefer straight away, just get in touch and we will do all we can to get things running for you and the students.
We are receiving quite a lot of questions at the moment, and it may take us some time to respond to them all, so do bear with us if you have emailed in. I hope this answers some questions at least, and as always, I want to say try not to worry – there will be time early next week for us to sort out most problems, one way or another!
Before then, there is a new year to welcome – I hope you are able to celebrate quietly in family bubbles, and that the next few days are peaceful for you all.
With best wishes for 2021,
