Huge than to all of you for your continued support – and patience – during this term. I know how hard it has been and am grateful for your understanding when things have been difficult. I have to say that the students have been excellent – sensible and optimistic and generally an absolute joy to be around this term, so I feel very lucky that I have been able to be amongst them when I know so many people have still been isolated at home.
I want to remind you that – though restrictions are lifting – they are still quite strict. Groups of six outdoors only at the moment and I think we must all respect the request to take things slowly, stay local and remain mindful of others’ anxieties. The vaccine roll-out is clearly having an impact and that is something to be grateful for, but it is important we all take up our appointment when it is offered and continue to be careful – washing hands, staying socially distant and wearing face coverings when asked to.
After the holiday, the students can wear their summer polo shirts – but they MUST also have their blazer as this is essential uniform, and the rest of their uniform must also be correct. No trainers! We will allow the additional plain blue hoodies only for the first couple of weeks – by May, these will no longer be allowed, so do warn them!
If your child is in Y11, you can access the latest JCQ guidance about their assessments this summer here: https://www.jcq.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/JCQ-Guidance-for-Students-and-Parents-on-Summer-2021.pdf
I have emailed Y11 directly to give them some information personally too – but in principle, we will be using the weeks after Easter to gather evidence in all subjects and to plan a pre-college curriculum for them so that they can be best prepared for further study, and I will write to you about that after the holiday. I have to say that the vast majority of Y11 have impressed me this term – they are doing their best and maintaining their motivation well and that is to their credit.
For now – it remains my absolute privilege to be here at KPHS with the amazing students we have here and I am very proud of all of them. I hope you have a lovely break and are able to use the relaxations in the guidance to enjoy some time with those you love – we will see all the students back in school in a couple of weeks’ time!
